One of my favourite authors is Henry Petroski, whose book To Engineer is Human - The Role of Failure in Successful Design led me to read anything he publishes. A good book to put engineering in perspective is To Engineer is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design and others by Petroski. I've been reading a popular text on engineering by Henry Petroski, To Engineer is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design (1982/1992). In fact, direct copying of biological organisms can lead to poor, or even disastrous, engineering designs.
